How It All Began

How It All Began

Gary Barbera was raised in Northeast Philadelphia. This is where his passion for the automotive industry began. Growing up, Gary spent his summers working at Kutner Buick, which was his neighbors’ dealership. Gary was ambitious and confidently knew he wanted to be a car dealer as a young child. After he graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School, he began his automotive career as a salesperson at Kutner Buick.

While Gary was at Kutner Buick, he broke sales records and was the top salesperson at the dealership. A year later, he was given his own used car lot to manage, and at 21 Gary was relocated to California to become Vice President and General Manager of a dealership that had undergone bankruptcy. This dealership became a huge success, he saved all of his money and lived modestly so he could begin the pursuit of his own automobile franchise.

It was not an easy upstart. In a five-year span there had been four previous owners of this particular Dodge dealership, which were all unsuccessful. Gary had to start at the bottom, but he was determined to optimize his shot. He partnered up with his oldest brother, Gene Barbera, and opened Gary Barbera’s Dodgeland on June 21, 1989. He was the youngest Chrysler Dealer in the country when he started his dealership.

Since 1989, Gary has worked with thousands of customers spanning the entire Delaware Valley – metro Philadelphia and South Jersey. Barbera Autoland is Philadelphia’s leading Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram Truck dealership. Barbera Autoland always maintains competitive new and pre-owned inventories of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles. Staffed with experience sales representatives and top trained technicians, they provide a fun, easy and valuable automotive shopping and service experience.

His automotive venture was a huge success. Gary decided to spend a portion of his time getting involved in local charities that benefit children that are less fortunate through Barbera Cares. From helping local charities to delivering messages to the youth not to text and drive, Gary feels that this is his civic duty to give back the area he loves.
